Daily Post 16

Today i did not do much exept just sit arround becouse it was a pretty slow day with nothing to do. I did not do anything today at all expet just walk out the office one time to go to the third floor. Then i just sat through the day and then it was that time of teh day again

Daily Post 15

Today i had walked into the office and they had asked me to go to weasley house appaerment aka storage room and get a printer out of there. Then when i brought the printer it had been the wrong one. Then i had to bring it back and tell you the truth it was a pain in the a$$. Then when i had brought the right one, they had give me more numbers to put into the computer and thats how i spent the rest of teh day.

Daily Post 14

I had gone to eat lunch and then i had walked into the office and they had given me 5 pages worth
of numbers and safety test numbers. Then i was just sitting the whole day putting the numbers intoi the server. Then it was that time of the day again, to LEAVE!!!!

Midpoint Reflection Question

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?
My internship has been the same from the beggining to the present. It was ddiferent from my expectations becouse i thought that i would be just sitting in the office the whole time but now i just walk arround. It is pretty good and it had exeded my expectations.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?
There is only one things that is in commn with school and my internship place. The things that is in common is that there are alot of different cultures religions and they all co exist and respect each other, like we do here. The new skills that i have learned is to wok with different computer software and electronic devices. Also i had learned how to oparate some medical equiptment. Thats about ti for now, i hope i learn even more while i am there

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?
I have a good relations ship with my mentor and my co workers. The co workets are very laid back and do their work seriously. They also can joke arround, exactly like me. I do my work and also can joke arround. We have grown as proffesional adults becouse we do what ever we have to do but its not all work work and work, it work and also talking and things like that. That makes for a better work enviorment.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?
The was no chalanges at my internship exept, finding my way arround the hospital. That is the only challange that i have
during the whole time i was at this internship site all other things are pretty easy for me. I over came this issue by just looking where i am going and remembering how to navigate.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?
There was only one challanged that i have faced is the lack of time to do Hw and other things. I am handaling them by doing them as soon as they are assighned. THat i the only way i see how i can handle them.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?
I am only working on one goal in my internship . The only thing i want to accomplish, is to navigate through the hospital without getting lost or asking people for directions. That is the only goal i have for the remained of the internship.

What new things have you learned about New York City?
The thing that i have learned about new york city is that it is an intricate and complex place
with its own infrostructure and its own ways of doing things. Everything in New York city depends on something and that things depends on something else. Everyone woeks together to accomplish something and if you split those things up everything falls apart.

Daily Post April 3

Today i barely did anything exept put in some information into themain server, and then went upstairs to finish safety tests on the rest of the new pumps that came in. After that i just delivered them to the NICU unit and then it was that time of the day again.

Daily Post April 1

Today was not a productive day. I did mostly nothing today, i just learned how to operate the new IV pumps that came in to the hospital and then the rest of the time i spent testing them. The testing went slow, becouse the pumps operate slower than the other IV pumps so it was more sitting than actual work going on. Either way the time passed fairly quick

Daily Post March 31

When i came in to the office it was full of IV pumps, one person was doing safety test in it and i was just walking arround and putting them in one room for storage. There they are going to sit until, all of them will go through a practice run. Then i went to a storage room across the street and did organazing there till the end of the day.

Daily Post 27

Today we serviced an operating table but i was not really involved becouse that was the first time i was doing that kind of thing. Then i was carrying a couple of things arround the hospital to different departments. I was kinda got lost, becouse it is like a maze in there and i took the wrong elevator and ended up in another place and it took me a couple of minutes to figure out where i was, so that was kind of funny.

Daily Post 26

Today was the most interesting day of all. I got to go into the Operating room to watch open heart surgery. It was the most interesting thing that i got to see the last 4 years i was here. I like to call it a unique opertunity, becouse not alot of people get to see that kind of thing so that was pretty good. Then after i got to work on a hospital server,i just had to format the drives that was pretty much it. Then it was that time of the day, to go home.

Daily Post 25

Today i did not really do anything exept regular testing that i ussualy do. In general the day went pretty slow and most of the time i spent in the biomed office. I also put some Id tags on some equiptment. That was pretty much my whole day

Daily Post 24

I did a couple things today. I tested some equpment, and solidified the way of how to do it. Discovered a couple of different rooms where they keep dead people. I might also soon go into the operating room to see an open heart surgery. I really looking forward to that.

Third Week Assighment

Describe one significant activity or project that you have completed or are working on currently.
As amazing as it sounds, there is not alot of things that i can just sit and work on, matter of fact there is mostly none. Everyday i do something different but most of the time i just walk arround with one of the people from biomed and just look at what they are doing and assist them in anything they might ask me. While they are wroking on something they explain what thay are doing and how it all works and comes together. Mostly all i do is walk arround and see how everything works and things like that. The reason why i dont do anything on my own yet, well most of the time there are no things that i can work on by myself and another is becouse mostly there things that happen are little things, like fixing a call bell in a patients room, or even better collecting old pumps from all over the hospital and even that i have to be with someone. In general there are no projects to work on individualy, since internship started i just been walking arround the hospital and testing medical equiptment for electrical safety and to see if they function properly.

Second Week Assighment 2

What did you do during your second week?
My second week was not so different from the other. The only thing thathave changed is i got to meet more of the staff of bio med and see more places arround the hospital. I got to see the morgue and the operating room and emergency room and things like that.

How was it different than the first week?
The second week was not different at all from the first week i was doing the samethings just seeing more of the hospital
and what goes on at the NYM

What is something that you really like about the internship?
The thing that i like most about my internship is that you get to walk arround alot and see what actualy goes on in a hospital. I also like that i get to work with all these machines that see kinda weired at times. Also the thing that i like most is that i work in a relaxed setting not alot of stress and rushing arround all over the place.

What is something you dislike about the internship?
The only thing that i deslike about my internship is you have to dress up proffesionaly but i guess its ok becouse after all its a hospital.

Who else's blog have your read and commented on?
I did not comment on anyones profile yet but i wil.

The End of the First Week of Internships

Please describe your internship site by answering the following questions...

What is it? My internship is at NYM, i work in Biomedical Engineering. Bsicly what i do is watch the Biomed employes on what they are doing and as they do it they explain it. After that i do it myself with them watching over me.

What kind of business is it and what kind of work do the professionals do there? The work that thay do there is test medical equiptment for electrical safety and anyother problems it might have. In general they fix all medical equitpment that belongs to NYM

Where is it? My internship is in the New-York Methodist Hospital at 503 506 Sixth Street

Brooklyn, NY 11215

Tell a little about your mentor. I dont know much about my mentor, becouse i dont talk to her alot. She is nice but she can be very strict at times, but that is a good thing becouse if you are too nice people might taka advantage of you.

What happened on the first day? Nothing happened on the first day exept we got our Photo Ids and then we had to go home becouse we did not have the proper clothes to start working, so i was kinda pissed off becouse i was looking forward to starting the internship already.

What kinds things have you done so far? The only things that i have done so far is test medical equitpment for electrical safety and proper functioning. Logged all the test that were do into the NYM database and i was shown arround the hospital where everything is located etc... I also learned what each machine does and what kinds of place and purpuse it had in the Hospital.

What were some of the highlights of the first week? (Memorable moments, cool things...)
The really good thing about my internship is that i work with really layback people, they do the work that thay need to do, but in the procces they talk and discuss things and it is nice.They talk about funny things that happen to them. I general a very nice working atmosphere. It is much better than sitting in an office and just doing paper work

Please answer some logistical questions...

When do you leave school? I leave from school arround 11:45. I have lunch and then i leave

How long does it take you to get to your internship? It takes me arround 40 to 50 minutes to get to the internship and sighn in and go to my work place

When do you arrive at home? When i come home from the internship it is arround 5:20

What is your schedule? (What days do you work and for how long each day?) I work 3 hours a day and 4 days a week

Who are the two people that can sign your time card? (Your mentor and the additional person)
The people who sighn my card are Steve the person in Bio Med and the administrator who hired me.
